My “Why”

“I was a little girl alone in my little world
Who dreamed of a little home for me
I played pretend between the trees
And fed my house guests bark and leaves
And laughed in my pretty bed of green
I had a dream
That I could fly from the highest swing
I had a dream
Long walks in the dark through woods grown behind the park
I asked God who I’m supposed to be
The stars smiled down on me
God answered in silent reverie
I said a prayer and fell asleep
I had a dream
That I could fly from the highest tree
I had a dream…”

My “why”. Why do I pursue this dream, this passion? Why don’t I settle for “good enough”? Why don’t I allow the opinions of others to hold me back? Why not fold? Why not give up? Why fight for my future? Why keep moving up and forward? Because of them. Because they are worth every pain, sorrow, loss, and change I have to endure to become my best self-my best everything. Because as I grow, I push out the limits on *their* lives and destroy the box *they* could be living in, that I refused to live in myself. Because they will have an example of someone who came from nothing, and followed God’s calling, and made something of herself. They will not be able to doubt God’s goodness, mercy, provision, faithfulness, or His grace, because she will make sure to tell them that she couldn’t have done it without His help. Their example will be a living, breathing person, near to them, and they will call her “Mom”. My “why” is the impact these children can possibly have on the world one day because my life will open the doors of imagination, dreams, and opportunities for them to soar, live confidently, and love others. Together, we will help people, and each of us in our own ways will see beauty in this world, and show people their own value as beautiful creations of God…and I’m all in.
